We are avid sailors who enjoy sharing the fun of sailing with others.
Steve is a US Naval Academy graduate, former Navy captain and AT&T vice president, and Washington D.C.-area business consultant. Luz Marina is a biologist, knowledge management specialist, and former deputy division director at the International Food Policy Research Institute in Washington.
Through 2015, we sailed a 2008 Gemini 105Mc on the Chesapeake Bay and chartered monohull and multihull sailboats in the British, U.S. and Spanish Virgin Islands. In 2017, we "fleeted up" to Fountaine Pajot's new 40-foot catamaran so we could spend more time cruising the Caribbean. Sadly Hurricane Irma and the tornadoes she created sank the catamaran at Nanny Cay Marina on Tortola. With the dream of sailing the Caribbean still alive, we applied the insurance payout to buy a Dufour 460 to be based with the Dream Yacht Charter fleet in Grenada. We are super happy with the new boat and new cruising grounds, and believe you may be too!
Love Knots refers to our enjoyment of making way under sail, with only the sound of the water passing by. It also refers to an tradition of deep-water sailors who gave their lovers a loose knot as a proposal. A knot tightened and returned meant the sailor should hurry back. We incorporated this tradition into our marriage ceremony -- and then decided the name suited our yacht too.
